Small Home, Big Style: Emily @ Go Haus Go

Hi Everyone!

Happy Friday loves!  I'm so excited to be debuting my first Small Home, Big Style Feature! Let's just get right into it shall we..

Today I'm happy to have Emily here hanging out with me. I just adore her and her ridiculously fabulous home. She blogs over at Go Haus Go, which I discovered about a year ago. I immediately fell in love with her wonderful character filled home and the modern, eclectic vibe she and her new husband have created throughout it. Speaking of new husband, her wedding photos are the thing of dreams!!  Seriously gorgeous.

I love how she's approached decorating her home, and the way she maximizes her limited space.  She even has rooms with dark walls, which some people feel are a small space no-no.  I'm sure you all could guessed I'm all for it--tiny room be damned!

Here's the skinny I got on Emily and how she lives and loves in her humble home:

-Where/What city do you live in?

I live in Covington, Kentucky which is in the Cincinnati metro area.

-Who do you share your home with?

I live with my husband and our two dogs, a Boston Terrier and a Chihuahua.

-Do you own or rent?

We own! My house-buying story is here.

-How many sq ft is your home?

900 square feet. This includes two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a laundry room and a full bath.

-What do you love most about small space living?

I think I most love the fact that it forces us to really "curate" our lives. I sort of roll my eyes at that word but I can't think of a better alternative! We're forced to constantly edit our "stuff" because there's only so much that can fit without things feeling claustrophobic. I love that we're only surrounded by the stuff we truly love and use on a consistent basis.

-What challenges have you faced?

For us, making design choices can never just be about how nice it looks, the color or how it great it fits the space. For us, each decision we make for a piece of furniture or art on the wall has to be a practical one too. Anything that can pull double duty for us is key. A daybed that pulls out into a full queen. A TV stand that also is a cedar chest. A desk that can also house a large dog crate. A piece of art that is thin enough so another door can be opened... and the list goes on! If we don't hold ourselves to that standard, we end up using a certain corner or wall not as efficiently as we could have.

-What's your favorite room in your home?

Oh man, this is hard! I don't think I have one! I do have a favorite spot in the house. On the weekends in the afternoon light, looking from the bedroom, across the living room and into the kitchen is the best view. There's just something about the light that makes that view so special to me.
-Do you ever wish you had more space?

All of the time! More bathroom counter space, more food prep space, a place to lay sweaters to dry. But those feelings tend to be super fleeting. I'm happy with a home this size because it gives us so much in return... more time to spend with people we love, more money to visit places we'd like to go, one less bathroom to clean, etc. I don't think we'll live small forever, but it's working well for us right now.

-Best piece of small space living advice?

Hmmm... I said this earlier but I always ask myself a question when I am out shopping or thrifting for home decor stuff. Would I pay $200 more for this? If I would, I know it's worth having. If I wouldn't, I know it would probably just end up as another piece of clutter I'd eventually do away with. And this conversation I have with myself is really hard! Sometimes I don't always succeed but it feels good to be improving.

Awesome, right?! I love what she said about "curating" her life.  It makes so much sense. Thank you so much Emily for sharing your story with us today. To see even more of Emily and her home check out her blog, and get a candid peek into her life on IG (@gohausgo)!

Stay tuned for a big announcement on Monday my friends.  Hope you all have a happy weekend.  Until next time....

  16. WOW...great style! 900 sq feet is impressive. Although when you think about it most of us "live" in about that much. It is only when we have company that we need more space!
