Focusing on the Guest Room

Hi Everyone!

Yay!  It's hump day!  We're halfway there, guys.  The weekend is within sight.

Speaking of weekends, this past weekend we welcomed our first overnight guest of the year.  News of our friends arrival made me get my butt in gear and throw together our  guest room.

As I mentioned before this room is tiny-measuring in under 10'x10'. (Note my very futile attempt to take a picture of the space with my cell phone..as I hang my head in shame)

We could never quite figure out the best use of space for it so we deemed it the storage depot for all the things we either had no use for or no idea what to do with.  It was a sad sad sight, and a total waste of square footage.

A couple weeks ago I started giving serious consideration to twin beds and, after doing a bit of space planning, realized they would be the most effective way to maximize the square footage.  With a plan in place we set out to pull the room together just in time for our friends' arrival.  Its not even remotely done yet, but at least now there's a place for folks to sleep.

(Please excuse the small snippets of the room.  Since the room is small and my lens is fixed and doesn't have a zoom feature, I can only back up so much without backing out of the room completely)

I went shopping throughout the house and found a few things to help pull the room together for the time being.

I actually really like the brass lamp and the bar cart in the space.  I'm about 99.99% sure the cart will get a color change, but the scale is perfect.  Originally I thought I wanted to use a small dresser or vintage side table, but given the space constraints, I like that the cart takes up hardly any visual or physical space.  This thing has found its way into almost every room in the house at one point or another, so I'm glad I finally found a home for it.

Over in the corner I put up a small luggage rack I picked up at a thrift store for $5

This, too will get a fresh coat of new color.  It will mostly live in the closet and make its way out when we actually have guests.

The room is off to a pretty good start, but there's work to be done for sure. Here's what we have left to do:

*Purchase bedding
*Purchase mirrors for above each headboard
*Wall sconces above beds (for individual reading lights)
*Purchase Rug
*Wall Art
*Thrift a small chair for the corner
*Change color of luggage rack
*Change color of bar cart
*Come up with alternate window treatment
*Purchase Accessories
*Polish the brass lamp

Seems like a long list, but I'm thinking it won't be too bad. Slow and steady, right.  We just found out today that we will be expecting another guest this weekend.  And so it begins....

So what does your guest space look like?   Until next time.....

    1. Hi Julia!!! The reason I'm considering giving it a color change is because its like aweful faux brass. It's the lightweight super shiny kind. It's just kinda worn and dirty so you can't actually tell that in the pictures. The luggage cart is the same way. Plus, you don't think there are too many gold tones in the room? It's like brass on top of brass on top of brass on top of the yellowish walls! I'm thinking it may be too much? What do u think?

    1. Funny thing Brandy..our guests still fight over who gets to sleep on the couch! That's part of the reason I was never really in a hurry to get a proper guest room in order. Awww now that's two votes to keep the brass...decisions, decisions.
