Hope everyone is having a smashing week! Mine has been a whirlwind of excitement thus far, which is why I'm a tad tardy with posting this. My apologies!
Ok, so lets get right into it shall we. I'm my previous post I mentioned that I got a little paint happy and made some color changes in a few rooms. I'm super happy I woke up with the need to paint because our sons room needed a change like a year ago!! When it came to deciding what color we wanted it to be we just knew we wanted it lighter and neutral. Not neutral-beige, more like neutral-blueish/grayish! Totally makin up words here, but bare with me.
We wanted his room to feel like a true kids space. We wanted it to look like a little boy's room but without the typical "blue" boys room stigma. I was actually trying to avoid the color blue all together. (You'll soon see that didn't happen, after all) We wanted color, organization, and purpose. Again, I wanted to avoid any kind of "theme" in there because honestly my kid loves something new every week, plus I'm not a huge fan of "characters". I'm happy to say we achieved all those things. We love his new room and so does he!
Here's a pic of the room before the makeover with the previous owners inherited earth-toned walls.
We definitely needed to make it a bit more "toddler appropriate". Once again we gave Behr's Disney color collection a try. In his room we chose the color Eeyore's Rain Cloud. (Awwwwwww) I know, right! Don't you just love Eeyore? He's my fav so I couldn't resist. We thought it was the perfect "not quite blue, but not quite gray." Here's the color swatch:
All we knew was those walls needed help, so we hit 'em hard with a couple a gallons of latex and they're the bees-knees! (20 points anyone who can tell me which Disney movie I got that from)
Even though on the camera the color is more what we were hoping for, the color ACTUALLY looks a bit more "baby blue".....oh, well!
His room is sooo much lighter now. We removed the closet doors and painted out the closet as well since we knew we wanted to turn that little bit of square footage into something "livable". I just adore the reading nook in the corner. He loves reading books so the first thing he did was plop down in the bean bag and break out the Dr. Seuss.
I found the book rack at Marshalls for $10 and I sprayed it orange. I also sprayed the Ikea shelf orange to unify the pieces. I knew I wanted to bring chalkboard paint into the room somehow, but wasn't sure if I wanted to paint the walls because I had a feeling it might be a little tricky getting the little guy NOT to chalk up all the OTHER walls as well! Instead, I opted to transform his table top into chalkboard. It was super easy and he loves it!
We already had the name hook in his closet for a while. We had been waiting to paint his room before we hung it up. It was originally blue and red, but a fresh spray of white made it more to my liking. I picked up the mini pails at Target in the $1 section. Man, it gets me every time! Thankfully this time wondered into the section on purpose and was able to find exactly what I was looking for. They hold chalk, crayons, and markers.
We found a dresser on Craigslist for $45. That'll be another paint project because aside from the fact that we don't want it black, whoever painted it before slapped latex right over bare wood without priming it first, so the paint is literally peeling off like a sticker. Once we find the perfect window panels and rug we'll decide which color to go with on the dresser.
Above the dresser instead of hanging art on the wall we decided to put some picture shelves up so we can constantly add and change out pics according to what he creates. Along with some of his drawings we put up another print I got from Sprik Space.
So that's what we're workin with so far! It's not completely done, but its a lot better than before! We've still gotta get window treatments, a rug, a better light fixture, and some art for the wall above the activity table...not too terrible. At this point we are just happy that his room is well on its way.
What about you guys? Has anyone made any changes to their spaces lately? Please share! Until next time......

Hi..love the color. It's much brighter! Love the closet combo, reading nook. My fav would be the print "I love you to the MOON AND BACK"
