The Neglected Room

Hi Everyone!

Happy Humpday my friends! So I have a bit of a confession. There's a room in my home that suffers from a serious case of neglect.  Our master bedroom.  Its sad.  So so sad.

We have literally done nothing with this room since the day we got our keys other than take off the closet doors and add curtains.  Everything else is exactly the same as the previous homeowners left it.  I haven't even painted the walls.  Now that's saying a lot!

This is the room I think needs the most work of any in our home.  I guess I have just dedicated my time and energy to other areas of the house because those are the areas people actually see.  Our poor bedroom has taken a seat on the backburner for far too long. It needs a serious dose of pretty.  I mean, we don't even have real bedding for pete's sake.  Its not a room that is reflective of either of us.

We've toyed with the furniture arrangement over that past 2 years and I think we've come up with a layout we like.  We had the bed against the windows, but it didn't allow for nighstands, which we really really need. This is a better depiction of its true color:

Id like to see just about every freakin thing in this room change. I have a ton of ideas floating around in my head for this space. I'm still conflicted as to whether I want to change the wall color and I may add an accent wall or possibly go with a tad deeper color all together. There are a few things that are def changing, though. We need a grown up bed (real bedding included), the ceiling fan has got to GO, and I want to really play with color, pattern, and texture in this space.  It should be fun.

So tell me, what's the most neglected room in your house? Until next time....

    1. I remember you mentioning your laundry room, Julia. I guess I should say 2 rooms bc I haven't touched ours either. Naomi actually just told me to please do something with it so I guess I'll be updating that space soon enough!

  2. I don't think it needs much help at all; you have all of the elements already there for a fantastic space. I wish my rooms were so easy to makeover :)

  4. Our bedroom was exactly the same way! I think we were here 5 YEARS before I even hung something on the wall in there! I am in the process of making it over now and what a difference it makes to walk into a room that feels like you at the end of the day! I know your room will be fabulous in no time! ;) Jesse @ Scout & Nimble

    1. I think that's the biggest thing Jesse is just being able to walk into a space that feels like us. I can't wait to get started in here.

  5. I haven't painted our Master yet either... it's a sad color of 'new builder off white' that's not so new any longer. I need to paint add some color on the bed and some decor on the walls... its a very boring room to enter.

  6. Shavonda, your room already has all the "basics" you need for your makeover. You could paint your bed a high gloss black or white which would really make the wall color POP! Get some really luxe fluffy comfy bedding in a nice calm color, now I know you love color! I'm an avid lover of bright fun colors also, but your bedroom is for peace & quiet;) the leaning mirror could be painted a gold metallic maybe?? I just see so much potentialHave fun & post lots of pics as you get going on the makeover

    1. Hi Tiff. Great ideas! I keep going back and forth between wether i want to keep the room subdued or of I want to stick with my love of color. I think the accent wall idea might be a good compromise in this case.

  7. Can't wait to see what you are going to do in your room and your inspiration for the space. My most neglected room in our home is the master bedroom. We have lived in our home for 5 yrs and nothing has been done, nothing. It's sad. :(

    1. Isn't it sad. I guess I never focused on it bc I literally only sleep in there. We don't spend time in our room. We don't believe in TVs in the bedroom so it's not a space we go to other than to retire for the night. The minute I wake up I'm not back in there til bedtime again.

    2. We do the same thing and we don't have a TV in there either. Our room has become the catch all space and that is truly sad.

  8. That's really sad if you neglect this room. As home is the place where you have a peace of mind and it’s your responsibility to manage each and every room. Because if each and everything is decorated well then it give a good look to your home and also you will feel comfortable.
