Dog Days of Winter Project Challenge-Organize It!

Hi Everyone!

Happy Monday!

This week one of my favorite bloggers, Carmen, of OurFifthHouse, along with eight other ladies began a series of weekly  linky parties aimed to get us up and at 'em and working on some of those projects we've been shamelessly procrastinating  (ahem) putting off for a while.  I love a good challenge and since one of my blog goals for this year is to link up more often, I knew this was something I'd be in for.

Today's theme is to ORGANIZE IT!  For this challenge I knew exactly what I was going to try to tackle.  My spice drawer was in DESPERATE need of some organizing.  Enter exhibit A:

That my dear blog friends is the ratchedness that was my spice drawer.  A hodge podge of containers, ziploc bags, and boxes all stuffed into the drawer.  Its ok, go ahead and judge.  I hang my head in shame.

This challenge motivated me to change all that.  The other day while on my lunch break I stopped into one of my favorite neighborhood thrift stores and found a spice rack.  I knew it would be the perfect thing to help me get this drawer under control.

So after giving them a good scrub down and transferring the spices into the jars I now have a much less embarrassing more functional and better looking spice drawer.

Much better, right!!  I consolidated the spices to the ones I use pretty much every day.  All others went into an overflow basket in the pantry.  Which is a WHOLE OTHER organizational disaster in itself, but I digress.  That left me some extra room to add more spices in the future.
For the time being I took a small piece of masking tape and labeled each jar on the bottom with a Sharpie until I get around to get a label maker.  Hey, baby steps, right?! #keepitrealorkeepitmovin.
This is what the stove area is looking like right now...

The small tray next to the stove houses my olive oil, cooking vinegars and wines, salt, pepper, spoon rest, a few small glass bowls for mixing ingredients, and a candle.  Am I the only one that likes to have a candle burning in the kitchen even when Im cooking?  Please tell me Im not the only one...

In the future I may line the inside of the drawer with some pretty paper, or maybe even paint it a fun color.  For now, Im just happy its no longer a hot mess.

So to quickly recap, for this ORGANIZE IT challenge, I took my spice drawer from this:

To this....

Thank you ladies for giving me a swift kick in the backside and motivating me to get it together.  I can now check one more thing off the to do list.  This definitely wasn't a huge undertaking, but it is a small change that's made a big difference.

Please, check out Carmen's blog to see what organizational antics other folks have been up to. And if you've been sleeping on an area in your house that needs a bit of tidying up, get up and get 'er done, already!  Until next time......
