How To: Gilded Molten Drip Lamp

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a fun filled weekend.  Mine has been great!  Yesterday I tackled a number of home improvement and art projects, one of which I am extremely excited about.

I took a basic boring lamp and gave it the gilded treatment.

I've been a little obsessed with gold and metallics lately, so I thought this may be fun way to incorporate it into one of our rooms.  I achieved the results really easily with some super inexpensive metallic gold acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby.

The great thing about this project is that there isn't any real way the final result is "supposed" to look.  Aren't those every one's fave! There's really no pressure to achieve perfection because its all about the medium organically creating something interesting.

For this project I used a lamp I already had in my dining room. A while ago I spray painted it white with intentions on one day doing something fun with it.

Here's how I did it.

I took my paint

and started adding it from the top of the lamp base, mixing in a tiny bit of water to help it drip a bit

(the Starbucks may or may not have contributed to the fact that I chose to take on an art project rather that tackle the laundry mocking me in the background)

I took step back and decided it needed more paint, so I added a bit more. Periodically I lightly twisted it from side to side at the bottom to help the paint along a little.

Once I added enough paint to my liking I used a blow dryer to dry it for about 3 minutes.  I could already see the paint starting to harden.  I was really loving it.

I decided to add a bit of gold trim to the lamp shade as well

I let it dry overnight and that's it.  I may decided to add gold trim to the bottom rim of the shade later down the line as well, but for now I really like it.  It decided it belonged on the chest along the gallery wall.  It adds an extra layer of interest, I think.

Things are slowly coming together. I'm currently playing around with the placement of some astrology art I created recently as well.  For now I'm just happy to have something checked off my to- create list.

Have you worked on project that you're in love with lately?  Until next time.........

    1. Thank you Lauren. Isn't it funny how things come back full circle. At one point brass and gold were considered gaudy and outdated, now they are making a huge resurgence and are dare I say...chic! Either way I'm enjoying the comeback.
