We've FINALLY found a backsplash tile, ya'll. This is major. Like major, major.
Trying to come up with a backsplash material we both could agree on has been a long, painfully annoying process. Much like everything else design related sweet Naomi and I had very different ideas about what it should look like.
I wanted color. She didnt. She wanted uber modern. I didnt. At times I leaned toward classic white subway tiles. She said, and I quote " Hell to the nizzaw".
She wanted glass tiles. I thought that was too boring and overdone already.
I liked penny tiles. Once again I got, "Hell to the nizzaw".
I suggested we just paint on a stencil. Then I retracted that, because I didnt want to contend with those pesky textured walls we have.
I suggested we go with something a little different, like cork. She said absolutely not. She once again, suggested glass tiles. I got the clue that she wasnt letting that glass tile thing go.
I suggested mirror. You know, to help reflect the light. She didnt shoot it down completely, but she didnt like it. I suggested marble tiles. She said, "Maybe".
We were getting somewhere.
I really wanted something with some visual texture. Straight up glass tiles were too slick and smooth for me, and something "textural" was too "not my thing" for her.
I had no hopes of ever getting this project underway.
Then we found it. Accidentally. In Costco of all places. When we saw it, we looked at each other and rang out a unanimous "This Is It"! {key the Hallelujah music circa National Lampoon's Xmas Vacation}
Isnt it purttttyyy! I think its the bomb.com, .org, .edu.! Its the perfect compromise of her desire to have glass tiles, and my need for some visual texture. And to top it off its just under $5 sqft!
I may go with a light grey grout rather than the white, but man oh man is it exciting. The colors will go perfectly with our white and gray cabinetry, too....
This is probably the longest kitchen makeover in kitchen makeover history, but slow and steady wins the race, right?
So have you found anything lately that's made you proclaim "Eureka!"? I'd love to hear about it. Until next time......
