Deck Progress

Hi Everyone!!

Happy Monday.  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Mine was super busy, but good.  Oh and it got to 108 degrees here on Saturday.  I'm a total heat lover and I'm pretty much not happy unless its at least 85-90 degrees out but 108 was flippin INSANE! Many of my poor plants paid the ultimate sacrifice because of it. Anyway....

Even though it was hotter than hell out I still managed to make some really good progress on the deck makeover.

For this first phase of the makeover  I focused on repurposing and reusing things I already owned.  The patio furniture is the same furniture Ive had for years that we got at Ikea.  The bench and chairs came as a dining set, but since I decided to use the space more for lounging and relaxing than dining, I nixed it and brought out a coffee table Ive been trying to find a home for for a while now.  Since its rattan, I knew it would be perfect for outside. I also brought out the garden stool I was using inside as well.  All the pieces had seen better days so everything got a new look with black spray paint. The lanterns and candle holders are leftovers from our wedding so it was nice to bring them out of storage too.

I planted some drought tolerant plants in inexpensive terracotta pots I got from Ikea as well.  I had these on hand with other intentions but this is as good an excuse as any to use them I guess.  They are bit too plain for me at the moment so Ill probably amp em up a little some how.  I also planted a dwarf Sorrento lemon and Bearss lime in big pots back in April.  These will be so pretty next year when they are in bloom and start to bear fruit.

Now that Ive got the larger pieces and overall layout down I'm on the hunt for some textiles and other accessories to bring it all together.  I picked up the pink cushions and throw pillow on clearance at Target and are what prompted this whole impromptu project.  Using them as my inspiration, Ill be looking for some more pillow covers and a rug.  The rug is gonna be key here so it may take me a while find just the right one. I'm leaning toward something really graphic or even kilim inspired. Id also like to try to DIY a water feature and a living wall to hang above the bench.  Ive seen some really awesome ones with succulents.

We were actually able to enjoy some time out here in the evening last night. I love the direction its headed so far!  So what did you get into over the weekend? Have you worked on your backyard space yet?  What things did you incorporated into yours?  My blog buddy Coco recently spruced up her balcony and it looks so good. Until next time....

P.S.-I'm super excited to (hopefully) be hosting my very first GIVEAWAY this week.  Trust me its one you wont want to miss!

    1. Absolutely! Im there! I actually really love Montana. It's gorgeous. I drive through a few times when I lived in North Dakota. So when I come hook up your deck, you can come get rid on this awful knock down texture on all my walls. Sound like a fair trade?
